If you fancy something sweet after your burrito, or to take away as an anytime snack, the BEAN sells Chupa-Chups KOJAK lollipops - but not for us. All -100%, every penny - from their sale goes to help an orphanage in South Africa run by an amazing lady called Mama Amelia.
Mama Amelia Potswa has been caring for orphaned children in Mfuleni in South Africa for over 30 years now. She receives very little help from the Government (12p per month per child in the nursery), and survives on donations of food, money and hand-me-downs from wherever. Nothing is turned down, as she never turns a child away - she now has around 200 children, from 4 weeks old to 15 or 16 years. All the children attend school, they are all very clean and tidy, and above all well fed and loved.
Mama has a piece of land nearby where the children can play after school at the moment, but it is her dream to build a school on the site.
As Mama Amelia tells it,” One day, when I was at the shop, I saw a child eating out of a rubbish bin. I followed him. He came from a very poor background. Both his parents were alcoholics. I thought to myself, ”I must do something and I must start right now.”
We do what we can to help her.
